Gastroscopy/Endoscopy Services

GastroscopyEndoscopic examination is a minimally invasive diagnostic procedure that allows us to visualize a horse’s upper respiratory tract, guttural pouches, pharynx, larynx, and sinuses. A long, flexible tube containing fiber optic wires is passed up the nose. An attached camera enables the doctor to view the image on a large screen as well as to videotape results for review or consultation. The endoscope can be used to obtain diagnostic tissue samples and to locate the sources of nasal discharges, bloody noses, excessive upper respiratory noise, pharyngeal swelling, and swallowing disorders.

Similarly, gastroscopy allows us to view the esophagus, stomach, and beginning of the small intestine to aid in the diagnosis and treatment of gastrointestinal ulcers.
