|
Our current intern, Dr. Julia Gray, is a 2011 graduate of the New York State College of Veterinary Medicine at Cornell University. A true global citizen, she earned her veterinary degree close by, but traveled to east Africa one summer to help with a field project to study cattle diseases in Nairobi. While an undergraduate at Kalamazoo College in Michigan, she spent six months in Thailand working at an elephant hospital . Before beginning her internship, she did a week of voluntary veterinary work in the Dominican Republic. On this trip she worked with GVEC ‘s Dr. Celeste Boatwright and several other veterinarians on Project Samana, providing veterinary care for the working donkeys and horses of this developing region.
Dr. Gray loves to work with youth groups and enjoys getting involved in community health education. Her sense of social responsibility has been honed by her world travels. She plans to include service to the large animals that live and work in impoverished areas and developing countries as part of her career. She is eager to be immersed in the world of horse practice at GVEC.
Dr. Gray grew up in the Pioneer Valley of western Massachusetts. She showed horses as a child and still enjoys riding. Besides her interest in veterinary medicine, she has a lifelong love of the arts and is an accomplished cellist. She spends her free time knitting, sewing, gardening, cooking, taking photographs and doing ANYTHING adventurous in the great outdoors.
