Dr. Joan Ayers

We have once again found an intern in the Land of 10,000 Lakes. After graduating from the University of Minnesota Veterinary School in June ’08, Dr. Joan Ayers joined GVEC to fill the internship spot for 2008-09. While at Minnesota’s new Veterinary Teaching Hospital, Joan was fortunate to be able to work with state-of-the-art, high-tech equipment such as MRI. She also took part in some unique learning experiences such as helping out at a veterinary clinic in Morocco and working with an equine practitioner in Seville, Spain. She gained valuable practical experience working in the test barn at Canterbury Park Race Track near St. Paul, Minnesota.

Joan has a strong interest in horses not only as patients, but as companions. As a teenager she spent many hours schooling her thoroughbred mare in dressage, and hopes to find time to return to the saddle. In the meantime she is enjoying running, reading, and hiking with her German shepherd/border collie dog, Zella.
